In 2000, I carried a 10kg camera from Taiwan to northern Thailand to film the local mountain tribes. When researching the remote mountains I found tribes which still lived in traditional houses on the banks of a mountain at the top of the hill I climbed, The distant river and mountains shimmered in the harsh sunlight. In the valleys I saw traditionally dressed women carrying firewood and leading buffalo to homes with dark wood smoke spiraling to the sky. This simple and tranquil scene affected me deeply. I vowed one day to return and open a resort here. |
